Thermomix TM6
If you're looking for a kitchen gadget that, does it all, the Thermomix TM6 is worth checking out 😍🍳🧑🍳
When it comes to kitchen gadgets, the Thermomix is truly in a league of its own. This German-designed device combines the functions of over 10 appliances, making it a dream for anyone who wants to save time and space in the kitchen.
My understanding of Thermomix is that they are quite popular outside the United States, particularly in Europe and Australia judging by all the YouTube videos I have seen. I have heard that this is due to kitchens being smaller and space at a premium so these multi-functional devices can really come in handy.
A bit of history on Thermomix:
The first iteration of the Thermomix was developed in the early 1970s by the German company Vorwerk. The initial model, the VM 2000, could blend, chop, and cook food, but was limited in its capabilities.
Over the years, Vorwerk released updated versions of the Thermomix with additional features and functions. For example, the Thermomix TM21, released in 1996, had a built-in timer and a built-in scale, allowing users to measure ingredients directly into the machine.
The Thermomix TM31, released in 2004, was the first model to become a global success. It was able to steam, chop, blend, whisk, knead, and cook food all in one machine. This model was sold in over 60 countries around the world.
The Thermomix TM5, released in 2014, featured a touch screen display and built-in recipe chip, which allowed users to follow step-by-step instructions for hundreds of recipes.
The most recent model, the Thermomix TM6, was released in 2019. It features enhanced capabilities, such as sous vide cooking, high-temperature cooking, and slow cooking.
The Thermomix is primarily known for its mixing and blending capabilities, but it also includes functions for weighing, heating, steaming, kneading, whipping, and more. This versatility means that you can use it to make a wide variety of foods and drinks, from smoothies to pasta dough to risotto.
I have waited to author this article for a while because this device is very odd and expensive. It is not something you buy “on a whim.” I purchased one because my sister, Nevine, purchased one and raved about it. After a few weeks of thinking about it, we took the plunge. It is a neat device.
We’ve now had it for a year, and we still use it every week. So, I can at least provide you with that data point.
What makes it neat? Well for me there are a few unique qualities.
It has a built-in recipe system where you are guided to add all the ingredients. The machine has a built-in scale so it weighs everything as you go.
You can add your own recipes to the guided system
It is a multi-function device. It can sous-vide, chop, steam, blend, and do so many things
Cleanup is super easy and effortless
As someone who has used the Thermomix for a year, I can say that it has truly made my cooking experience easier and more efficient. I love being able to chop, blend, and cook all in one machine, which eliminates the need for multiple pots, pans, and appliances. Plus, the Thermomix is designed to be easy to clean, with most parts being dishwasher safe.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the Thermomix comes with a hefty price tag. So, it is important to consider whether the investment is worth it for you.
Overall, the Thermomix is a powerful, versatile, and easy-to-use kitchen gadget that can be a significant change for many home cooks. Just be sure to think about your specific needs and budget before taking the plunge.
Thermomix has a bit of a weird sales model – Thermomixes are primarily sold through direct sales representatives (or "consultants") who do in-home demonstrations. They are also available to buy online directly from the manufacturer, Vorwerk. That is how I bought mine. On a website.
I have had one or two for 12 years. I use it daily. My Thermomix support page on face book has over 132,000 followers. Best investment ever. New modes are regularly added to the TM6.
This has been a fascinating rabbit hole to go down. Do you mostly use it for prep or start to finish meals?
