Great article. The link to block access to social security number has been giving errors.
If I'm not logged into ssa.gov the error is "Online Service Not Available".
If I am logged in the error is "Forbidden".
This has been the case for the last few days. Has anyone else had this problem?
The feature still exists. It's now called an "Electronic Access Block," and as of 2026 SSA only does it via:
- Phone: call 1-800-772-1213 and ask to block electronic access to your record, or
- In person at a local SSA office.
